Feuerzangenbowle

There is a lot of freedom for variations. To make it less alcoholic, and also because the spices should be extracted while boiling and it's not good to boil the wine, I actually begin with a base made of tea (usually Assam), which was not in the original recipe. On New Years Eve we had maybe 0.5 liter tea, strained, then added the spices and brought it almost to a boil. Then I added the wine and warmed it up again on the stove. For the rum you need more than 50% alcohol to burn, so we had 151proof Bacardi; in Germany I get 54% (=108proof). You need a metal holder for the sugar cone and a metal ladle for the rum.
